We’ve just rolled out a major update to our ViroReact and Expo Starter-Kit, bringing it up to speed with ViroReact 2.43.6 and Expo SDK 54 while also packing in a bunch of new AR demo scenes to help you get started faster.
If you’ve ever wanted to explore how plane detection, manual placement, or free-space interaction work in ViroReact, this update has you covered.
🆕 What’s New
Updated versions: ViroReact 2.43.6 + Expo SDK 54
New AR demos:
Auto Plane Scene — detects flat surfaces and anchors a draggable robot
Manual Plane Scene — lets you tap to place a 3D dog model where you want it
No Plane Scene — places a box in world space, no plane detection needed
Improved navigation: easily switch between demo scenes via a new opening menu
Expanded Metro config: supports GLB, GLTF, OBJ, and other 3D formats out of the box
💡 Why It Matters
We’ve designed this starter kit to give you a solid starting point for building AR apps with React Native and Expo no complex setup, no hidden gotchas. With these new demos, you can quickly understand how core AR concepts like plane detection and object dragging work, then build from there.
Whether you’re experimenting for fun or prototyping your next big spatial experience, this kit now offers a more complete foundation to learn from and extend.
